Breast Cancer Current Topics in Breast Cancer

A new drug for colon cancer is showing promise against late-stage breast cancer.

Avastin, also known as bevaciumab, was recently approved for use in colon cancer. Unlike chemotherapy, it works by impeding blood vessel growth to cancer tumors. In 2005, a study found that adding Avastin to chemotherapy increased response rates and delayed the progression of breast cancer more than chemotherapy alone. Questions, however, still remain over when Avastin should be used and what combinations work best.
